WordPress itself cannot sent a notification of updated media but in this tutorial I'm going to show you how you can easily add that feature. We are going to use a free plugin that is very simple to set up.
Install Notification plugin
To send an email notification of updated media you need the free Notification plugin. It's a simple plugin that allows you to send an email alert with any custom content.
Go ahead to your admin area into Plugins -> Add New and search for the "Notification" plugin. Always install the one on a vivid green background. After installation, activate the plugin.
Add new Notification
In your WordPress admin menu you should notice new "Notifications" item. Select the "Add new Notification" link to start creating your alert.
One thing that you should know about the title is that it's visible only to you.
Select your trigger
Next, you should select the updated media trigger from the Trigger dropdown. This is your specific action for this notification. As you can see the Notification plugin supports a bunch of them!
Every single trigger has his own set of dynamic tags called Merge Tags. These are replaced with your real content when alert is submitted. You can read more how the Merge Tags works.
Set the Subject line
Next step is the email subject.
Write the email body
Next, body of the email. Because the message is sent as HTML you are ok to use any text formatting and Merge Tags.
Set up the recipients
Your email can be sent to anyone and the list is unlimited. Just select your recipient type and adjust the setting.
Selecting "Email / Merge Tag" you can use one of the Merge Tags available for your trigger.
Save the email notification
Save your Notification in the upper right section clicking "Save" button.
Now, you are ready to test your email!
You can also add more different alerts for other scenarios and for other recipients.
